Tips For Naming Your Dog
Find a couple Z dog names you like and are thinking, now what?! Well, now it’s time to figure out how to select the perfect name for your pooch. Here are some helpful tips for naming your new dog:
- Keep It short-(ish): Why? A short name is easiest to say and understand. Sticking to one or two syllable names will be your best bet. Don’t worry, most of the names on this list are on the short end. If you fall in love with a longer name, consider a nickname. Let’s say you love the name Zachariah, maybe his or her nickname can be Zach. A win all around!
- Avoid confusion: Your dog needs to be able to distinguish his/her name from other words. Avoid name that sound too similar to commands or other names in the house.
- Test it: A dog name that looks good on paper, doesn’t always sound good aloud. Take some time to see what fits. Say the name aloud to see if it rolls of your tongue. If it does, consider whether it’s a match for your dogs look and/or personality.
- Take your time: Trust us, you’ll be saying the name ALOT 🙂 So take a couple extra days to be sure it’s a name you’re happy with. Then go get that dog tag engraved!
Can I Rename My Dog?
The fact of the matter is your dog will likely already come with a name. Maybe it’s one that they don’t even know yet or maybe it’s one they’ve had for years. Either way, you absolutely can rename your dog but here are some tips for deciding.
- You’ll want to consider what your pups current name is and whether you like it. Maybe you got lucky and love the name. But let’s face it, since you’re here looking at Z dog names, we’re guessing you’re not a huge fan. That is okay!
- Just remember if it is a name your dog actually recognizes it will take him or her a while to understand their new name. One way to ease this process is to consider a name that sounds similar to the existing name. That you means selecting a name that starts and/or ends in the same letters as the original name.
At the end of the day, go with what your gut feeling on renaming!
